🌊 Danger Lurks Beneath the Beauty: Ceunant Mawr Waterfall 🌊

This Bank Holiday weekend, the picturesque Ceunant Mawr waterfall near Llanberis turned into a scene of a near-tragedy. Amidst soaring temperatures, a visitor had a narrow escape from drowning at this Instagram-famous spot beneath the stunning Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).

Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team swiftly responded to this emergency—one of 14 call-outs they faced during the heatwave. With heat-related illnesses, slips, stumbles, and exhaustion on the rise, our beloved beauty spots are turning into treacherous terrains.
Ceunant Mawr, with its lush surroundings and Bali-esque charm, has become a social media hotspot. But it’s not without risks. Despite warning signs at the location, many are tempted by its inviting appearance, only to face danger instead. Locals remind us this is not a place for carefree swims, however picturesque it may seem.
Over the years, the waterfall has claimed several lives. In 2024, a nurse tragically drowned here, and another heart-stopping incident in 2020 saw a young girl miraculously survive being swept down its 100ft drop. Residents urge everyone to appreciate its beauty from a safe distance, echoing one visitor’s sentiment: “Beautiful, but just for looking.”
While Ceunant Mawr’s serene pools may look like a perfect summer spot, they are deep, icy, and unpredictable. Remember, safety first when exploring nature’s wonders! 💦💕
