**Urgent Appeal: Help Bring Leigh Home**

A Welsh nurse is at the heart of a diplomatic conundrum after being detained by Israeli authorities. Leigh Evans, originally from Swansea, was on a mission to deliver aid to Gaza when his boat, the Abd Elkarim Eid, was intercepted. The vessel was part of the Thousand Madleen Flotilla, a group of nine boats aiming to peacefully break the blockade of Gaza.
Leigh’s wife, Maz Varey, has expressed her profound concern over his safety, describing the situation as “frightening” and urgently calling for his return to the UK. In a moving video on Instagram, Leigh, sporting a bandana with the Welsh flag, identified himself and pleaded for help, urging supporters to pressure the British government for his immediate release.

The Foreign Office has assured they are liaising with Israeli officials and offering support to the families of those detained. Labour MP for Gower, Tonia Antoniazzi, confirmed her team is closely monitoring the situation and is in contact with Maz.
Organisers of the flotilla have shared that legal teams will step in once the detainees are on land. They are hopeful for a swift resolution, with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicating a prompt repatriation is expected.
Leigh’s commitment to aid and solidarity has touched many. He previously gained attention when a video of him pleading with Egyptian police to allow aid into Gaza went viral.
