Are you a cheese enthusiast or a bit more picky with your palate? A new survey has revealed some interesting cheese preferences across the UK! While 90% of Brits adore cheese, it seems that two-thirds aren’t too keen on the bold flavours of blue cheese, with many avoiding it purely due to its strong smell. Especially amongst Gen Z, the mere fragrance of Stilton puts them off before they even have a taste!

The survey, commissioned by Clawson Farms, found that though Gen Z claims to be the most adventurous foodie generation, they’re the least likely to give blue cheeses like Stilton a go. In fact, 43% of them have never even tried it, often citing the smell and look as major deterrents. This reluctance contrasts sharply with their willingness to experiment with other bold global flavours.

To tackle these cheesy misconceptions, Clawson Farms launched the “Will You Brave The Blue?” campaign during Wimbledon, urging tennis fans to swap classic strawberries and cream for strawberries paired with blue cheese. The idea was to challenge perceptions and inspire curiosity about the much-misunderstood Stilton. According to Clawson Farms’ managing director, Bill Mathieson, while Brits are adventurous in exploring global tastes, the rich British flavour of Stilton often gets overlooked.

So, why not challenge your taste buds? It turns out, many who took the plunge were pleasantly surprised by the unexpected pairing of strawberries and blue cheese. After all, three-quarters of people agreed that you should try a food at least once before judging it.
Whether you fancy mature cheddar or something more exotic, it might just be time to brave the blue and discover why Stilton is cherished in British cheese lore. Who knows, you might just find a new favourite! 🍓🧀
