🌟From Life of the Party to Stroke Survivor: Ruth Jones’ Transformative Journey🌟

Ruth Jones was a vibrant primary school teacher and busy mum of two, always the life of the party. But in September 2021, her world turned upside down. After a hectic day at school, she returned home with the worst headache of her life and a sharp pain behind her ear. By morning, the right side of her face had dropped. Ruth realised she was having a stroke.

The stroke was caused by a blood clot cutting off blood flow to her brain. Rushed to hospital, Ruth received life-saving treatment. Despite this, the aftermath left her feeling overwhelmed and abandoned. “One day I was surrounded by doctors, the next I was home with a body I didn’t recognise,” Ruth shared.
Christmas, usually Ruth’s favourite time of year, arrived quickly. The organised teacher who usually had all her shopping done by summer found herself unprepared, both emotionally and financially. The festive season, once filled with joy and traditions, felt different and challenging. “I was good at acting Christmassy but didn’t feel it inside,” she admitted.
Ruth’s determination shone through as she strived to keep Christmas traditions alive, even hosting dinner on her own. However, it was the little things, like being unable to roller skate with her daughter, that truly broke her heart.
Four years on, Ruth has a newfound perspective. She’s learned to accept help and focus on what truly matters. With the support of her daughters and her own resilience, she looks forward to creating new holiday memories. “This year, I’m feeling Christmassy already,” Ruth says with a smile.
Ruth’s story echoes the experiences of many stroke survivors who find the Christmas season altered by their health battle. The Stroke Association reminds us of the importance of support for those affected, encouraging everyone to give the gift of support this Christmas. 🎄
