💔 Heartbreak in Newport: Community Mourns Two Young Lives 💔
Tragedy has struck Newport, leaving the Alway community in deep shock. A fatal crash in the early hours of May 7th involving a motorbike and a BMW has claimed the lives of two young men. The motorbike’s driver and his pillion passenger were both tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The aftermath has seen an outpouring of grief and love from the community. More than 50 floral tributes, heart-shaped balloons, and candles have been placed at the scene. Alongside them, heartfelt messages capture the sense of loss: “Fly high boys, forever in our hearts” and “Rest easy boys.”
Social media is flooded with tributes and shared memories of the victims. One person poignantly remarked, “Can’t believe we are writing this. The most precious boys ever. It’s a parent’s worst nightmare.”
The incident took a darker turn with the arrest of three individuals. An 18-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman are in custody on suspicion of murder, and a 24-year-old woman on suspicion of assisting an offender. Meanwhile, the BMW driver reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.
Gwent Police are actively investigating and seek assistance from the public. They urge anyone with information, particularly those with CCTV or dashcam footage from Aberthaw Road between midnight and 1.40 am, to come forward.
Tonight at 6.30 pm, a balloon release at Alway roundabout is planned to honour the memories of these young men. The gathering will be an opportunity for friends, family, and the community to come together in remembrance.
Our hearts go out to the families and everyone affected by this unimaginable loss. Let’s keep them in our thoughts during this difficult time. 💔🌹#Newport #CommunityStrong #RestInPeace
