✨ Heartbreaking Tragedy in Surrey ✨

Our hearts go out to the family of 12-year-old Brooke Wiggins, who tragically lost her life just days before her 13th birthday. Brooke was enjoying a day out in Banstead, Surrey, when disaster struck as the branch of a tree supporting a rope swing suddenly snapped. The inquest concluded it was a tragic accident that no one could have foreseen.

Despite an inspection by Surrey County Council back in May 2022, a hidden crack in the tree wasn’t detected. A re-inspection planned for 2024 was delayed, but experts have affirmed that even early detection might not have revealed the swing or any danger. Concerns were raised about the inspection process, but the council was found to have reasonable systems in place given the resources at hand.
Assistant Coroner Ivor Collett shared heartfelt words with Brooke’s family, acknowledging her bright spirit: “Brooke was plainly a light that shone in their lives, and while that light shone far less than half as long as was its due, it clearly shone more than twice as brightly.”
Let’s hold our loved ones a little closer today and remember the bright spark Brooke was to those who knew her. 🌟
Stay safe and cherish each moment, everyone. ❤️
