**Tragic Loss in Bridgend: Man Found Dead After Christmas Leave**

The community of Bridgend is left heartbroken as Leon Michael Shaw, 43, was found deceased on January 4, 2024, in woodland after being granted leave from a mental health unit on Christmas Eve. Leon was under the care of Caswell Clinic at Glanrhyd Hospital, having been detained by a court order due to his emotionally unstable personality disorder.

Friends and family describe Leon as someone who had been making progress. His psychiatrist, Dr Rebecca Lendon, shared that Leon was engaged and taking steps forward in his treatment. Leon was even contemplating a move to a less secure hospital, showing signs of positive change despite some reservations.
However, concerns grew when Leon missed his return check-in at the hospital. A call to the hospital on Christmas Eve suggested distress, but no one anticipated the tragedy that would follow.
Leon’s father, who recently changed her name to Polly Parker, shared the last conversation with her son, recalling he seemed happy but incoherent on the phone, leaving her grasping for answers.
An inquest revealed no negligence in Leon’s care but concluded that he tragically died by suicide. This devastating incident highlights the complex nature of mental health struggles and the importance of constant support for those in care.
Our thoughts are with Leon’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. The loss reminds us of the critical need for mental health awareness and support.
