Two sisters tragically drowned while enjoying a day out at the stunning Watkin Pools near Yr Wyddfa, North Wales. Hajra Zahid, 29, and her sister Haleema, 25, embarked on a peaceful outing with three friends, only for it to end in heartbreak. The friends were students at the University of Chester, seeking some summertime respite in the picturesque spot known for its wild swimming allure.

As the sisters, who couldn’t swim, ventured upstream for a moment of quiet, their friends called for them later but received no response. They stumbled upon Hajra face down in the water, her bright red dress visible. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t save her. The rescue team later found Haleema in the depths, marking a tragic day for all involved.

The Coroner Sarah Riley confirmed that both deaths were accidental drownings. The chilling contrasts of the hot summer day and the icy waters of the pools were noted, highlighting the inherent dangers of such conditions. Slippery rocks and cold currents played a part in this devastating accident.
Hajra’s husband shared heartfelt words, portraying her as a nurturing, driven spirit whose light touched many. Similarly, Haleema was warmly remembered by her friend as a cherished family member. This tragic incident has left a lasting void in the hearts of their loved ones.
This heartrending tale is a reminder of the unpredictability of nature and the importance of caution around wild waters, especially for those not adept in swimming. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to their family and friends during this difficult time. Stay safe out there, everyone. Let’s cherish our loved ones and look out for each other.
