Did you know the beloved sitcom Gavin & Stacey almost had a jaw-dropping twist? Creators James Corden and Ruth Jones recently revealed they considered turning our favourite nice guy, Gavin Shipman, into a villain! Imagine Gavin having an affair—what a shock that would’ve been! Thankfully, they decided it just didn’t fit the show’s vibe.

Revisiting the classic English-Welsh comedy brings back great memories, doesn’t it? We laughed, cried, and fell in love with Gavin and Stacey’s story as they navigated marriage and family life together. Ending last year, the show remains a fan favourite, with the 2019 Christmas special pulling in an incredible 19.3 million viewers!

Ruth also spilled that they almost turned the final episode into a film. But they felt these characters belonged in your living room over turkey and chocs. And did you know, there was almost another special for Comic Relief in 2009? Picture the whole Barry crew in a minibus heading to the live studio—it would’ve been classic!
In the end, only Smithy (Corden) made it to the sketch, hilariously critiquing the England football team. How we’d love another special, but alas, it wasn’t meant to be.
Gavin & Stacey might be over, but it lives on in our hearts—and maybe one day on our screens again! What plot twist would you have loved to see? Let us know in the comments below!
