Exciting news for Milford Haven! The highly anticipated £2.6m flood defence scheme designed to protect the Lower Priory and Havens Head areas is one step closer to reality. Residents remember the terrifying floods of November 2018 all too well, with water reaching up to eight feet and causing major disruption. Sarah Rees, a Havens Head local, vividly recalled scrambling to safety with her daughter during the chaos. Fast forward to now, and it seems relief is on the horizon.

At the recent Pembrokeshire Council meeting, Cllr Rhys Sinnett shared promising updates, saying they are almost “over the line” with the project. Backed by the Welsh Government, the proposed Havens Head Culvert could soon bring much-needed peace of mind to the community. The funding split for this project is 15% from the council and a generous 85% from the Welsh Government. With an estimated total cost of £2,629,638, plans are in place to secure council contributions over two financial years.

Should all go smoothly with final approvals, construction is set to move forward, finally putting an end to years of planning and discussions. Cllr Guy Woodham expressed optimism, noting it’s great to see progress after years of deliberation. Here’s hoping for swift Welsh Government approval so that Milford Haven can look forward to a safer and more secure future. Keep your fingers crossed for a thumbs-up soon! 🌧️💪
