πβͺ Oops, They Did It Again! Cwmbran’s Victory Church and its neighbouring car wash operated for over a year without realising their temporary planning permission had expired! But don’t worry, Torfaen Borough Council has now given them a thumbs-up. π

The site on Greenforge Way, where both the church and car wash are located, had only ever been given temporary permission to operate, as the area was intended for bigger development plans. However, the revised council plans have changed and now the church can continue to serve the community without a hitch.

Reverend Clyde Thomas and his team were taken by surprise. They believed their permission was good for three years, while it was actually five, expiring in May 2024. Thankfully, there were no objections about how the space was being used. A fresh planning approval ensures they can keep their doors open and wheels turning! πΏπ
The Victory Church, a hub of community services, including a food bank and play service, now has the green light to keep its six shipping containers, which blend into the industrial vibe of the area, as well as install new windows and an external staircase to their converted factory building. ποΈ
The planning officer highlighted that both the church and the car wash caused no disruption to highway safety and fit the areaβs aesthetic. With six full-time staff at the church and the car wash employing around four to six, they’ve become important local employers.
Cwmbran High School uses church facilities to support at-risk students, and there’s a thriving food bank, backed by the council and the National Lottery, serving around 85 families! π₯«β€οΈ
Who knew a former factory could become such a vital part of the community? Kudos to everyone involved for making it happen! π
